HORATIO BRIGHT - THE MAUSOLEUM AT MOSCAR SHEFFIELD

PART 4

In July 2009. I received some more photos of the interior of the Mausoleum at Moscar near Sheffield. As I stated in PART 2, in January 1983, grave-robbers had broken in through the half-inch thick steel door and ransacked the coffins. The police investigation focused on robbery as being the motive for the desecration - the bodies interred were believed by the robbers to have valuables on them. To prevent further desecration the coffins and the bodies were removed but as the photos show the Mausoleum was just left as it was

It really is a sad and depressing sight to see such fine furnishings and materials being left in such a ruinous state. As far as I can ascertain there are no plans to renovate and repair the Mausoleum and so it will, I assume, just continue to decay until the day comes when it will be demolished.

Note: My thanks to the sender of the photos - a very poignant end or so I thought!
