SHEFFIELD - AERIAL VIEWS

It is difficult to date the photograph exactly but I would estimate that it was in the early 1980's. The road on the bottom right leading up to the Charter Square roundabout is Charter Row

The second photograph was taken at the same time and shows the dual carriageway of Arundel Gate on the bottom right of the photograph leading to the underpass and roundabout at the bottom of Furnival Gate. The round building on the left of the carriageway is the Sheffield Registry Office and the building to the left of that is the Town Hall extension popularly known as "the egg box" . Completed in 1977 at a cost of over £9million, the extension had a projected life span of over five hundred years but was demolished by the Council in 2002.
