THE SANBY FAMILY IN SHEFFIELD 1881
The details listed below are taken from the 1881 Census. In the ten years since the
previous census in 1871 the four eldest brothers have all married and left
the house on Cobden View Terrace. The only brother remaining in the house is the
youngest brother GEORGE SANBY (1864 - ). The two eldest daughters ANN ELIZA and MARY ANN SANBY have
also left leaving the two youngest daughters AGNES and JANE at home. There is a
ANN J who is a general servant at Thomas Morton's house at 147 Broomspring Lane.
(see notes). This may be ANN ELIZA if the entry J is a transcription error.
Incidentally the house at Cobden View Terrace still exists. I have made a couple of enquiries and the row of houses were built circa 1850.

Parents Joshua and Ellen GILL. There is a possibility that Mary's
maiden name is POUNDS and that the marriage occurred in the December quarter
of 1858 (GRO Ref vol 9c page 516). This needs verification though
2. Jane SANBY Maiden name GILL - her daughter JANE was born in the September

JOSEPH and JANE SANBY were married in the registration district of Ecclesall Bierlow in the June quarter of 1876 (GRO Ref vol 9c page 315). Incidentally Jenkinson Street no longer exists as it was demolished years ago as part of the Kelvin development. It ran parallel to Fox Street. Joseph and Jane must have been lodging at the home of Jane's parents

She died aged 74 in the March quarter of 1908 (GRO Ref Sheffield Vol 9C Page 382).
