JANE SANBY 1870 - 1927

JANE SANBY married a man called Alfred NALL on 23rd July 1893 at St Georges Church Sheffield. (GRO Ref Volume9C Page 682 - September 1893).  Initially I thought that JANE was the eldest daughter of JOSEPH SANBY, my great grandfather's elder brother but the 1901 shows that JANE was unmarried at the age of 23 and still living at home with her parents in the Park Hill district of Sheffield.

After reviewing the evidence on the web-site of Paul Flinders (see below) and re-examining the 1881 Census I am certain that that the JANE SANBY Paul refers to is my great great grandfather HENRY SANBY's daughter and NOT his niece. This would give her an age at marriage of 23 and not 16 as indicated on Paul's site. The date of birth for the first born November 15th 1893 gives the reason for the wedding on 23rd July 1893 at St Georges Church in Sheffield. This would mean that the date of birth in Paul's family tree for Jane should be 1870 and not 1877. Confirmation was finally received when I checked the GRO reference for JANE NALL's death. In GRO Ecclesall Bierlow Vol9c Page 566 for the March quarter of 1927 it states that JANE NALL was 57 years of age when she died. She was born in 1870.

Nevertheless the NALL family tree has been extensively researched by Paul Flinders and so if you require more detailed data I suggest that you follow the link to Paul's website

I have adapted the above image from the Paul's site to show where JANE SANBY figures in the tree. Incidentally her husband ALFRED's great uncle Robert NALL (born 1810) murdered his wife Mary Ann Hall and was hung at York 16th April 1842 (Source: "A Most Un-English Crime" by M. Hartley.). Shades of my Lewis ancestors!!

ALFRED (born 29th October 1869 in Sheffield ) and JANE NALL (nee SANBY) had two children. As you will see from the narrative Joseph and Doris ended up marrying the son and daughter of the son of George (1855 - ) and Myna Emily JACKSON (1862 - 1949) - maiden name HATTERSLEY

JOSEPH NALL - the eldest child was born on 15th November 1893 (my dad's birthday) in Sheffield. Joseph married twice the first occasion being the 31st July 1919 at St Mary's Parish Church, Walkley, Sheffield to a MISS MAY DAVIDSON (born 4th December 1895 Sheffield). I do not know exactly why the first marriage ended but I can hazard a guess that it could be do with the premature death of MAY. On 17th April 1933 at the same church where he married May, he married SARAH JACKSON (born 16th February 1897) - the DAUGHTER of George (1855 - ) and Myna Emily JACKSON (1862 - 1949)

DORIS NALL was born on 10th September 1895 in Walkley Sheffield (the same district my Gran Rose lived in as a child). She married the SON of George (1855 - ) and Myna Emily JACKSON (1862 - 1949) - WILFRED JACKSON. The marriage took place on 20th April 1922 at Wadsley Parish Church Sheffield. WILF and DORIS had three daughters Joyce. Margaret and Eunice.

Her mother JANE had died many years earlier on 26th February 1927 and her father ALFRED had died five years later on 8th October 1932 at the age of 62
