HARRY and NELLIE FOUNTAIN - SHEFFIELD
NELLIE was my great grandmother Florence's younger sister. She was seven years old at the time of the 1901 Census, the same age as her future husband HARRY. Both were born in Sheffield. Harry and Nellie are rather unique in my family history in that they are as far as I'm aware the only couple to celebrate their Diamond Wedding Anniversary. Their Ruby, Golden and Diamond anniversaries were all covered in the local Sheffield press. The Golden Wedding Anniversary on February 3rd 1968 was held at the Angel Hotel at Spinkhill near Sheffield whilst their Diamond Wedding Anniversary was hosted at their home address of Ridgeway Crescent, Sheffield. I remember going to the party as it was just down the road from where I was living at the time.
Sadly HARRY died four years later on Friday 16th July 1982. They had been married for 64 years.
The sad postscript to the death was that four month's later on 14th November 1982 Harry's eldest son BERT FOUNTAIN died suddenly. The service was held four days later at City Road cemetery. Bert was the husband of a woman called Nellie and they had a daughter Wendy.
The other son HARRY FOUNTAIN married a woman called ELSIE PHELAN. There were two children from the marriage Linda and John
Aunt Nell died on 7th March 1985 at the grand age of 91
